Terrorism Threats Loom Over PTI Protest in Islamabad

Ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s planned protest in Islamabad on November 24, the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a serious terrorism threat alert. The alert warns of potential attacks from the extremist group Fitna al-Khawarij, which is reportedly planning to target public gatherings during the PTI protest. NACTA has indicated that members of this terrorist group have already crossed the Pak-Afghan border into Pakistan and are targeting major cities, including Islamabad.

Terrorism Threats and Security Alerts

The NACTA statement emphasizes a "credible" risk of terrorist attacks during the PTI protest, with the group potentially targeting the rally and other public gatherings. The agency has urged law enforcement to be on high alert, especially in light of the ongoing political unrest.

In addition, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has issued a separate alert warning of a possible suicide bombing during the PTI protest in Islamabad. The KP Home Department has communicated that intelligence from NACTA suggests terrorists may attempt a suicide attack at the rally. Local authorities are on high alert and have been urged to implement extra security measures to prevent such incidents.

Police Operations and Security Measures

As the PTI protest approaches, Islamabad police are conducting widespread search operations to maintain public order. So far, over 200 individuals described as "miscreants" have been arrested, with weapons also seized during these operations. Police are enforcing Section 144, which bans gatherings and protests in the capital. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone violating this legal order.

Islamabad police have reassured the public that every available resource will be used to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent any disruptions. A police spokesperson confirmed that public order will be maintained according to the Islamabad High Court's directives.

Growing Tensions Ahead of the Protest

The heightened security situation reflects rising concerns about both political instability and security threats as PTI supporters prepare to gather in the capital. With terrorism alerts and tight police measures in place, the situation remains tense. International and domestic pressure continues to build over the protests, and the government is working to manage both the security risks and the legal aspects of the rally.
