Over the past two days, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 120 Palestinians, according to Palestinian health officials. As Israel intensifies its bombardment, widespread destruction has been reported across the besieged Gaza Strip, with hospitals and residential areas bearing the brunt of the attacks.
Destruction in Gaza
One of the most devastating strikes occurred overnight in Gaza City's Zeitoun suburb, where a residential building was hit, killing at least seven people. Other areas in central and southern Gaza have also seen rising casualties.
In the central Gaza Nuseirat refugee camp, the al-Faruq Mosque was severely damaged by an airstrike. Video footage verified by Al Jazeera shows the extent of the damage, adding to the ongoing destruction of civilian and cultural infrastructure in Gaza.
Israeli forces have also intensified their ground assaults, particularly in northern Gaza, targeting key infrastructure. Among the hardest-hit facilities was Kamal Adwan Hospital, which was struck during the offensive. The attack on the hospital, which left several healthcare workers wounded, has raised serious concerns about the safety of medical facilities. The hospital’s director, Hussam Abu Safia, described the assault as a direct strike on emergency areas, including courtyards and electrical generators.
Humanitarian Crisis
The situation in Gaza is rapidly worsening, with the Ministry of Health warning that fuel reserves for hospitals are running low and may only last another two days. Since the beginning of the Israeli military campaign in October, more than 44,000 Palestinians have been killed, and over 104,000 others have been injured. Humanitarian organizations have raised alarms, especially as food, water, and medical supplies have become nearly impossible to access in northern Gaza.
International pressure is mounting for Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into the region. On Saturday, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin urged Israeli officials to take steps to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza during a phone call with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Global Concerns
The ongoing conflict has sparked growing concerns from global humanitarian groups, with the United Nations warning that Gaza may soon face widespread famine if aid is not allowed in. The international community continues to call for a halt to the violence and for steps to be taken to improve the dire conditions in Gaza.
