Shehbaz Sharif Aims for Closer Ties with Trump Administration
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended congratulations to US President-elect Donald Trump on his historic victory, signaling his intent to strengthen Pakistan-US relations in the coming term. In a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Shehbaz expressed his eagerness to work closely with Trump’s incoming administration to deepen the partnership between the two countries.
The announcement comes amid a moment of political transition, as the United States appears to be on the cusp of electing Donald Trump for a second term. Prime Minister Sharif’s call for collaboration reflects Pakistan's desire to fortify its strategic and diplomatic ties with the US, which have seen various fluctuations over the years.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also congratulated Trump on his electoral victory. Zelensky highlighted Trump’s commitment to “peace through strength,” referencing the positive outcome of their previous discussions during a meeting in September. The Ukrainian leader’s message underscored the importance of US leadership in global peace and security, which is expected to remain a focal point for the Trump administration.
Both leaders, Shehbaz and Zelensky, expressed optimism about the future of their countries' relationships with the United States, with hopes for continued cooperation on security, economic, and geopolitical matters.
