Rawalpindi DC enforces Section 144 over ‘unrest’ reports

In light of growing concerns over unrest ahead of a planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, the District Commissioner (DC) of Rawalpindi, Hassan Waqar Cheema, has enforced Section 144 in the area until November 26. This measure was taken following a meeting of the District Intelligence Committee, where reports about potential unrest around Adiala Jail and other parts of Rawalpindi were discussed. The Rawalpindi DC acted swiftly, banning public gatherings, rallies, and any assembly of more than four people in the district. The decision is a response to fears of extremism and terrorism in connection with the protest.

The PTI, led by Imran Khan, has called for countrywide protests on November 24. This escalation in tensions led to the imposition of Section 144, as authorities seek to prevent any potential violence or disturbances. The PTI has also presented a set of demands to the government to call off its protest, including the immediate release of their leader, Imran Khan, and the quashing of all cases against him. The party has also requested the transfer of Imran Khan to Peshawar Jail if his release is delayed. PTI leaders imprisoned in various jails are also included in the party’s demand for release.

In response to the government's stance, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, stated that negotiations regarding the November 24 protest will only proceed if Imran Khan is released first. This adds to the rising political tensions as the situation in Rawalpindi and the broader country heats up.

The imposition of Section 144 in Rawalpindi comes at a time of heightened political unrest, with PTI’s leadership demanding immediate relief for their imprisoned founder. As the November 24 protest draws nearer, the situation remains tense, and all eyes are on any potential developments in the negotiations. #Rawalpindi #PTIProtest #ImranKhan #PoliticalTensions #Section144 #Protest #PakistanNews #GovernmentActions
