After a period of disruption caused by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, normal traffic flow has finally been restored in both Islamabad and Lahore. Major roads and motorways that had been blocked by the protests are now open, and traffic is moving smoothly once again.
In Islamabad, the situation quickly returned to normal after a large-scale operation by authorities, which saw protesters dispersing from key areas like D-Chowk and Blue Area late last night. The roads, which had been heavily congested by the protest, are now clear. Many protesters have also left, heading back to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in their vehicles. The Express Highway, which had previously faced heavy traffic jams, is also now free of blockages.
As the streets and highways become clear, cleaning crews have begun their work, particularly focusing on areas like Jinnah Avenue, the Express Highway, and Srinagar Highway, which had been littered with debris during the protests.
The motorway system, which had been severely impacted by the protest, is also back to normal. Key motorways that were closed or disrupted have now reopened, including:
- M1 Motorway (from Peshawar to Islamabad)
- M2 Motorway (connecting Lahore and Islamabad)
- M11 Motorway (between Lahore and Sialkot)
- M4 Motorway (from Pindi Bhattian to Abdul Hakeem)
- M14 Motorway (from Hakla to Dera Ismail Khan)
- M3 Motorway (also now open)
In Lahore, all major entry and exit points have been cleared, including important routes such as Ravi Bridge, Old Ravi Bridge, and Sagian Ravi Bridge. Roads like Multan Road, Raiwind Road, Ferozepur Road, and Gajumta are now fully operational, while Lahore’s Ring Road and the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway have also resumed normal traffic.
The Lahore Traffic Police spokesperson confirmed that all internal and external routes in the city are now fully functional, marking the end of the disruptions caused by the protests. Regular traffic is now flowing smoothly across both cities, bringing relief to commuters.
