Mashal Yousafzai fired after criticising PTI leadership

Mashal Yousafzai, a prominent spokesperson for Bushra Bibi, has been fired from her role as Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, after criticizing the leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. The Chief Minister's Secretariat issued an official notification confirming her removal, which came just hours after she gave a revealing interview on a private TV channel.

In the interview, Mashal shared sensitive details about the internal workings of PTI’s leadership, particularly during the recent protests in Islamabad aimed at securing the release of Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned for over a year. She revealed that despite advice from party leaders, Bushra Bibi decided to go to D-Chowk instead of Sangjani. According to Yousafzai, Barrister Gohar had relayed instructions from Imran Khan urging Bushra to participate in the sit-in at Sangjani, but she chose D-Chowk, expressing distrust in the party leadership.

Mashal also claimed that during the protest, Bushra’s vehicle came under fire, which contradicted the official police statements that denied the use of live ammunition. This claim added fuel to the controversy, as it cast doubt on the accuracy of the official narrative surrounding the protest. Mashal further pointed out the confusion regarding the directions Bushra Bibi received from Imran Khan, as she sought to speak directly with him to clarify his intentions for the protest strategy.

Following the interview, Mashal confirmed that her removal was a direct result of her comments. "I was de-notified because of my remarks about the protest and the confusion surrounding the directions given to Bushra Bibi," she said. Her dismissal comes at a time when PTI is already facing internal struggles, including resignations from key leaders like Salman Akram Raja and Sahibzada Hamid Raza, who left their posts after the failed sit-in attempt.

The protest, intended to be a high-stakes demonstration for the PTI leadership, has exposed deep divides within the party, particularly over strategy and leadership decisions. Mashal’s dismissal highlights the growing tensions and struggles for control within PTI.
