Lahore is facing severe traffic disruptions as authorities have blocked all major entry and exit points to the city, including sections of the motorways, ahead of a planned protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Large containers have been placed at the Babu Sabu Interchange to close off the motorway, and traffic is being redirected from there to Thokar Niaz Baig. The motorway from Niazi Adda to Babu Sabu Interchange is also heavily disrupted, with thousands of containers lining the route.
Other key roads affected include:
- Saggian Road, which is closed on both sides from Al-Saeed Chowk and Sheikhupura.
- Shahdara, where traffic from Imamia Colony and Barkat Colony heading into Lahore is blocked.
- Begum Kot Chowk and the Eastern Bypass are completely closed to traffic.
- Lahore Ring Road is also inaccessible to regular traffic.
In addition to these closures, Islamabad bus terminals are set to be closed starting at 8:00 PM on November 22 in preparation for the protest. Extra security personnel have been deployed at all checkpoints across Lahore to manage the situation and maintain order. However, Lahore’s city traffic flow remains normal for now.
Motorway Closures for Maintenance:
Due to maintenance work, six major sections of the motorways have also been closed since Friday night:
- M-1: Islamabad to Peshawar
- M-2: Islamabad to Lahore
- M-3: Lahore to Abdul Hakeem
- M-4: Pindi Bhattian to Multan
- M-14: Hakla to Yarik
- M-11: Lahore to Sialkot
The closures are part of a broader effort to prepare for the PTI's planned protest on November 24, when former Prime Minister Imran Khan has called on his supporters to march to Islamabad. The protest is intended to demand the restoration of democracy, a free judiciary, and the release of PTI workers.
