Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called for the resignation of the current government over the recent events in Islamabad, following a protest organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Speaking to the media in Khanpur, Maulana Fazl strongly condemned the actions that took place in Islamabad, describing them as “unfortunate.” He expressed disappointment with how the government handled the protests at D-Chowk and stated that the government should have resigned due to the situation's mishandling.
Governor's Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Maulana Fazl's Stance
Despite widespread political discussions around imposing Governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Maulana Fazlur Rehman dismissed the idea, stating that he was not aware of any such plans. He emphasized that while the constitution does provide for such a measure in specific circumstances, the current conditions were not conducive to its implementation. The JUI-F leader made it clear that he is not in favor of creating friction between the provincial and federal governments and believes that stability and cooperation between the two are essential.
Opposition to Political Party Bans
Maulana Fazl also expressed his disapproval of any attempts to ban political parties, stressing that he does not support such actions. He clarified that while he condemned both the treatment of PTI workers and their protest in Islamabad, it was important that the fate of PTI and its founder be decided by the courts, not by arbitrary political decisions. “I am not in favour of banning any political party,” he remarked, reaffirming his commitment to democratic principles.
Concerns Over Constitutional Amendments and Religious Seminaries
On the issue of pending constitutional amendments, Maulana Fazl pointed out the delay in the signature on the religious seminaries clause by the president. He warned that the JUI-F would continue to push for the signing of this crucial amendment. "We will not remain silent until the clause is signed," he declared, underlining the importance of constitutional progress for the country.
International Influence and Election Integrity
Turning to international matters, Maulana Fazlur Rehman took a firm stance against foreign interference in Pakistan's politics. He specifically referred to former U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that no external leader should have a say in Pakistan’s political future. "We cannot allow foreign powers to dictate our politics," he asserted.
Additionally, Maulana Fazl questioned the integrity of the last general elections, alleging that they were "managed" and did not reflect the true will of the people. He claimed that the governments formed post-election were contrary to public opinion, calling into question the credibility of the electoral process.
