Public Holiday Declared for Baba Guru Nanak’s 555th Birth Anniversary in Nankana Sahib
A public holiday has been announced for November 15 across the Nankana Sahib district in honor of the 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. The Deputy Commissioner of Nankana Sahib, Taslim Akhtar Rao, made the announcement through an official notification. The celebrations for Baba Guru Nanak's birth anniversary will take place from November 13 to 16, and they are expected to attract thousands of Sikh pilgrims from Pakistan and around the world to Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of the revered Sikh guru.
The district administration has made extensive preparations to ensure a safe and smooth experience for the pilgrims, particularly with the expected influx of foreign visitors. Local authorities have worked closely with security agencies to manage the celebrations and provide adequate services for the large crowd.
Last week, Punjab's Minister for Minority Affairs, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, along with Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal, visited Nankana Sahib to review security arrangements for the event. During their visit, they inspected key entry and exit points in the city and provided guidance on enhancing security measures. Deputy Commissioner Taslim Akhtar Rao and District Police Officer Syed Nadeem Abbas briefed the officials on the security strategy and ongoing preparations from the control room.
It is anticipated that over 60,000 Sikh pilgrims from around the world will visit Nankana Sahib for the celebrations. After visiting Nankana Sahib, the pilgrims are expected to travel to other significant Sikh sites, including Farooqabad, Sheikhupura, Hassan Abdal, Kartarpur, Eimanabad, and Lahore, to continue their spiritual journey during the commemorative period.
