PM Shehbaz decries deadly assault on Rangers, police by PTI protesters

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the violent attack on law enforcement personnel by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters in Islamabad on Monday night, which resulted in multiple casualties among Rangers and police officers.

In a statement, the Prime Minister demanded that those responsible for the attack be quickly identified and brought to justice. He stressed that such violence under the guise of a peaceful protest is unacceptable.

“I condemn the attack on Rangers and police personnel. These officers are responsible for maintaining law and order, and such acts of violence against them cannot be tolerated,” said PM Shehbaz.

The Prime Minister clarified that these violent acts were not part of a peaceful protest but were aimed at creating chaos and bloodshed for political reasons. He called it an attempt to create anarchy, saying that Pakistan cannot afford to face any form of violence or disorder.

The attack took place on Srinagar Highway, where a vehicle rammed into a group of Rangers officers. Security sources confirmed that four Rangers officers were killed, and several others were injured. At least two police officers also lost their lives, and more than a hundred were injured, many seriously.

The violence erupted as PTI protesters, heading to Islamabad for a sit-in, clashed with law enforcement officers across the city. Reports suggest that protesters threw stones and fired at police in different locations.

Earlier, a Rangers official was also injured in an attack by PTI workers near Chungi No. 26 and was hospitalized. Security forces have launched an operation to arrest those responsible for the violence and assure that all involved will face legal consequences.

The Prime Minister's statement comes as tensions in Islamabad remain high, with PTI protesters continuing to clash with security forces. Authorities have pledged to take strong action to restore order and prevent further escalation.
