IHC Disposes of Petition Regarding Jail Facilities for Imran Khan, Confirms Compliance with Regulations
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a written ruling on a petition filed by Noreen Niazi concerning the jail facilities and meeting arrangements for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder, Imran Khan. The court ruled to dispose of the petition after being assured that the jail authorities are fully complying with established prison regulations and court orders in providing necessary facilities to the former Prime Minister.
The written order, delivered by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, stated that the authorities had presented a detailed report from the superintendent of Adiala Jail, confirming the provision of appropriate facilities to Imran Khan. The report also clarified that the previously imposed ban on prison meetings—initially enforced by Punjab’s Home Department due to security concerns—has been lifted. This ban had been a point of contention, as it restricted the ability of individuals to meet Imran Khan in prison.
According to the court’s order, a meeting between petitioner Noreen Niazi and Imran Khan had already been arranged, and the process for future meetings was clearly outlined. The court was informed that Imran Khan had appointed a coordinator, as per the court’s directive, to facilitate meetings with those wishing to see him. Anyone wishing to meet Imran Khan could contact the coordinator to make necessary arrangements.
The deputy superintendent of the jail confirmed in his statement that Imran Khan has access to all the standard facilities available to prisoners, in line with jail rules and the court's orders. These facilities include both physical and legal rights granted under prison regulations.
The petition was ultimately disposed of after the petitioner’s lawyers expressed satisfaction with the assurances provided by the jail authorities. As a result, the court concluded that the necessary provisions were being made for Imran Khan, and the matter regarding jail facilities and meetings was considered resolved.
