Hyundai Motor, the South Korean automotive giant, is recalling approximately 145,235 electrified vehicles in the United States after concerns about a potential loss of drive power. The recall was confirmed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday.
The affected vehicles include specific models of the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 electric vehicles (EVs), along with certain luxury variants of the Genesis GV60, GV70, and Genesis G80, spanning model years 2022 to 2025.
The issue stems from a malfunction in the integrated charging control units, which can become damaged and fail to charge the 12-volt battery. This problem can cause the vehicle to lose drive power, posing safety risks for drivers.
In response to the issue, Hyundai has assured customers that dealers will inspect the affected vehicles at no charge. They will replace any damaged parts and update the software, including fixing the fuse. This recall aims to ensure that the vehicles are safe to drive and free from the power loss problem.
This recall highlights the growing need for automakers to maintain stringent quality control, especially as the market for electric vehicles continues to expand.
